About Gravity
What is Gravity?
Gravity is a notes app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android. Every note goes into one stream with the newest at the top, and older notes sink as you add more. When one still matters, you swipe it right (or press R on the Mac) and it goes back to the top. Notes are stored on your device, search works offline, and there are no folders and no account to create.
The idea came from Andrej Karpathy's append-and-review method: write everything in one place, read back through it now and then, and move up whatever you still care about. Gravity is that method built into an app.
Who makes it?
Gravity is built by Tristan Manchester, a solo developer based in the UK. You can find my work at tristanmanchester.com. Gravity started as a tool for my own stray thoughts, because I was tired of filing them into folders. I kept using it, so I made it into an app other people could buy.
The philosophy
Most note-taking apps ask you to decide where a thought belongs before you've finished having it. Gravity asks you to write it down and decide later. When you scroll back through, the notes that catch your eye get rescued and stay near the top, and the rest sink. You never have to tidy up.

How Gravity is developed
I keep Gravity small on purpose. If a feature slows down capture, needs setting up, or gives you a system to maintain, it doesn't belong here.
The test is whether you can open the app, write and close it again in a few seconds. Beyond that, I care about fast search, storage you can rely on, and a review you'll keep doing.
That's why I turn down some popular requests. Folders and tag managers work in other apps, but they turn note-taking into filing. I explain the trade-off in No, we're not adding folders.
Who Gravity is for
Gravity is for one person's quick notes, with a short look back now and then to pull out what still matters.
- It suits you if you want to write things down fast and scan them once a day without keeping a system going.
- It runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android and keeps your notes on your device. On Apple devices you can turn on iCloud sync. On Android, it backs up to a folder you choose.
