Privacy Policy
Gravity is a personal, single-user notes app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android. This Privacy Policy explains what information Gravity handles, how it is stored, and the choices you have.
1. Data I Collect
- Notes and preferences you enter: Stored locally on your device in a SQLite database. On iPhone, iPad and Mac, you can optionally enable iCloud sync to keep notes in sync across your Apple devices. Your data stays in your personal iCloud account, not on my servers. The Android app does not sync.
- Device information: Released apps do not send device identifiers or location to Gravity. Optional beta diagnostics include limited technical platform information as described below.
- Crash or diagnostics information: Released apps do not send crash reports to Gravity. In beta builds where offered, you can choose to share crash and Gravity Sync diagnostics with Sentry to help fix failures. Sharing is off by default and can be turned off in Settings. Reports contain technical information such as app version, platform, operation, error category and timing. They exclude note text, drafts, authentication tokens and email addresses, and do not include account identifiers or persistent device identifiers. Turning sharing off does not delete reports already received.
- Gravity Sync beta list: If you join the list on the Gravity Sync page, I store your email address, the devices you picked, the site or link that sent you, the language your browser reports, whether you signed up on a phone or a computer (worked out from your browser's user agent), and your country (worked out from your IP address by the website's host, Vercel). Your IP address itself isn't stored. I use them only to email you about Gravity Sync. The list is kept in a private Google Sheet that only I can open. Email me and I'll remove you.
2. How Your Data Is Used
- Your notes and settings are used solely to operate Gravity’s core features (capture, view, search, archive, and export).
- The website uses minimal, aggregate traffic analytics via Vercel Web Analytics. These metrics are used to understand page performance and traffic trends, not to profile your notes.
- Data is never sold or rented. Service providers process the information needed for the services described here, including Sentry for optional beta diagnostics.
3. Where Data Is Stored
- Your notes remain on your device in local storage. If you enable iCloud sync on iPhone, iPad or Mac, notes sync through your personal iCloud account. I never have access to this data.
- Exports you initiate, and on Android any automatic backups you turn on, are saved or shared via your chosen destination (for example, Files, a folder you pick, or email). Once exported, the data is governed by that destination’s policies.
Optional beta diagnostics are sent to Sentry separately from your notes, using a US-region organization. Diagnostics are not necessarily stored in the same region as iCloud or Gravity Sync data. Contact me with questions about a report or a deletion request.
4. Your Choices and Controls
- Beta diagnostics: You can change sharing in Settings without affecting your ability to use Gravity Sync. This choice controls app diagnostics; service-side operational diagnostics used to operate Gravity Sync are separate.
- Export: You can export all non-deleted notes at any time from Settings.
- Archive and delete: Notes can be archived. Deleted notes first move to Deleted Notes, where you can restore them. Permanent deletion only happens when you choose it, either from Deleted Notes or automatically after a period you set in Settings. Permanently deleted notes are not recoverable from within Gravity.
- Permissions: Gravity does not request sensitive permissions beyond standard storage access required by the operating system.
5. Children’s Privacy
Gravity is not directed to children under 13 and is intended for personal productivity use by adults. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
6. Security
- Local information is stored in a SQLite database on your device. Protect access to your device and operating system account to safeguard your notes.
- Gravity only transmits notes over the network if you enable iCloud sync, in which case information flows directly to your personal iCloud account.
7. Changes to This Policy
I may update this Privacy Policy to reflect product changes or legal requirements. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
